The Latest from Forest FM

In 2013 WRLR 98.3 (U.S.) and Forest FM 92.3 (U.K.) teamed up to travel and broadcast from world famous Route 66.

WRLR's award winning morning drive-time host Paul Lepek (Lepek & Co.) and Forest FM's Paul Peters and Geoff Kemp (The Fabulous 50s) will be capturing the history and flavor of Route 66 through live on air interviews with the people living, working and visiting the Mother Road. The music of the 50s and 60s will be featured during the broadcasts.

The tour will take us from Chicago to Joliet, Pontiac and Atlanta, IL and points in between on America's Mother Road. WRLR and Forest FM will be doing live broadcasts from historical and favorite tourist sites. The remotes will be carried on WRLR, Forest FM and fed to the Dave Cash weekend show heard on the BBC in Britain. Famous Chicago radio DJ Clark Weber will be joining us on air in Pontiac via phone, among others. At least one broadcast will air from the Pontiac Route 66 Museum's wonderfully recreated 1966 studio, using actual working vintage equipment. Around 12 Noon we will hit the road on our way to Joliet where we will stay a couple of nights as guests of Harrah's Casino and Hotel. While in Joliet we will do another 3 hour morning broadcast at the Joliet Area Historical Museum and meet up with Tony Contos , its executive director. The following day we will broadcast from Stage 151 at Harrah's Casino. By the late afternoon we will be again on the road, this time to Pontiac. The next morning our first broadcast in Pontiac will take place. In Pontiac we will meet up with former radio station owner and local radio historian Lane Lindstrom , also longtime Route 66 enthusiasts  like Ellie Alexander , Executive Director for City of Pontiac Tourism Bureau and Cathie Stevanovich , President of the Route 66 Association of Illinois. After a couple days in Pontiac the next stop is Atlanta, IL where the Route 66 Radio Tour will broadcast from the beautifully restored Palms Grill Cafe, right across from the famous Bunyon Giant on Route 66. We will talk with this town's dedicated preservationist and marketing guru William Thomas .

Forest FM - Runners Up (with a highly commended citation) in the Radio Academy award for the Station of the Year 2009/2010 * in the South.

*The Awards - a series of regional events designed to honour radio stations broadcasting to a population of 300,000 or under - are a prestigious recognition of the vital role that independent radio plays in the UK . Forest FM was one of three stations nominated across the south of England and was up against Isle Of Wight Radio and Andover Sound. As station manager Steve Saville said "We had to submit a 30 minute compilation of clips from our output - and then supply a one hour segment "as broadcast", the output time chosen randomly by the Academy".

The ceremony - held at Bournemouth University - was hosted by Professor Sean Street , director of The Centre for Broadcasting History Research, together with veteran regional radio presenter, Matt Hopper. Professor Street noted that "For the first time - we've added an extra award, a Highly Commended citation for a station that represents all that's good about truly local radio". Forest FM was praised for its wide variety of music output, it's local focus and its championing of the community it serves. Receiving the Award, Steve Saville commented "We were just delighted to be nominated - thrilled to be here! But to be recognised - that's something really special "
